| INDEPENDENT I have been making music for as long as I can remember. Anything that makes a sound got my attention: a worn out acoustic guitar with one string; pans, cans and stuff. I learned to play recorder, classical guitar and electric bass, learning music notation. Then came tape-recorders, multi-track recorders, putting compositions together. I bought a computer, and the possibilities the digital domain offered were liberating; being able to work on tracks in a non-linear way, getting high-end productions with relatively low-cost means, and now, integrating my computer as part of a live setup. Atmospheric is a word often used in describing my music; the soundtrack to an imaginary movie. All music speaks to a place that is not of words alone, evading meaning, inviting feeling, sensing. |
COMMISIONED/ Music for Dance & Theatre I started making sound-scores for my own dance performances while I was a student at the School for New Dance Development; usually incorporating some kind of live setup. We had some great tutors and visiting artists working in other media, as well as excellent accompanying musicians for dance technique classes. Working as a professional dancer and theatre-maker I continued making scores for my own performances and those of others; mixing music, sounds, speech.
What does sound give to a theatre performance? One can add mood and atmosphere, an accompanying rhythm or pulse, driving a scene forward, and interpunction to the narrative. To listen to tracks go to www.soundcloud.com/marc-nukoop |
