 Nukoop & De Boer

Live! at The Van Gogh Museum

June 5, 2009

Nukoop & De Boer is a theatrical band consisting of Cees de Boer (spoken word), and me (laptop, objects, bass, voice). On the occasion of the last Friday evening of the exhibition "Van Gogh and the colors of the Night" we will perform the poetry read by Vincent van Gogh with a contemporary musical vision. Poems by Heinrich Heine, Alfred de Musset, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Jan van Beers that Vincent van Gogh read and analyzed, inspired him in his process to become an artist.

In his letters to friends and family he quoted his favorite poets and explained how the poetic imagery brought him to sketches and eventually paintings. Nukoop & de Boer made a selection from Vincent's literary favorites and shaped them into soundscapes, to be rediscovered by our modern ears.
